Our Company
We are a small, family owned and operated coffee company located near the historic Lone Rock School in the northeastern part of Montana’s Bitterroot Valley.
We started Lone Rock Roasting Company in 2018 with the intent of bringing recently roasted, specialty coffee to our end of the valley. We wanted to create something small and unique for local folks who were interested in tasty coffee without the pretense.
After a few successful years of clandestine coffee-drops, farmers markets, community events and fundraisers, we decided that it was time to step things up a bit. We built a roastery and staked out our own little corner of the internet. Let the coffee-flavored hijinks begin!
Thank you for your continued interest in our company and the fruits of our labor. It is our hope that our coffee finds a pleasant place in your moments and memories.
Our Coffee
We work with small coffee importers to source interesting green coffee from small family farms and co-ops from across the coffee-growing world. opens in a new windowSpecialty coffee, in fact. Without being too precious about it: it’s the good stuff.
We roast coffee the old-fashioned way – manually and in small batches. Instead of using computers and automation, we rely on sight, smell, and sound to guide our roasting process. This helps to ensure that each batch of coffee is roasted the way it should be. Yes, it’s a bit more labor intensive, but it is well worth the extra effort.
A little rustic, a little fancy, a little adventurous… our coffee has personality. Our coffee is carefully and thoughtfully prepared – a little something special from Montana to complement whatever your adventure may be.
Our Founder
Hi, all! I’m John. I’m the incorrigible creative behind this family coffee endeavor.
I’m a simple guy. I like my coffee black, my metal heavy, and my curry spicy.
I am a savorer of moments, a joyful collector of memories, and a big fan of mountain sunrises with coffee in hand.
I developed a taste for fancy coffee as a poor college student in the early ’90s. Eventually, I had to make the choice between spending money on great coffee or still being able to afford rent. Thankfully, I was able to come up with another option: I taught myself to roast my own great coffee. I’ve been at it ever since.
Sharing coffee and a smile is a splendid thing – I’m truly grateful to be able to share both with you.
